What Makes Me
Installation Art / Senior Seminar Project at LFC
Copper wire, wool, tissue paper, glue, plastic plate, mirror pieces
This installation art is influenced by a Spanish feminist artist, Cecilia Vicuna, who is committed to combining feminist forms and methodologies to her massive installation projects. Her monumental quipu of unspun wool “invokes the power of menstruation and creative force of women”. The material used in this piece - wool and iron - represents two balanced virtues: tenderness and strength in traditional Chinese culture. The artwork is designed to lead physical interaction between audience, inspire them to discover implied message of the material and color scheme, as well as break down the stereotypical gender roles that define masculinity and femininity.
